Over the years, plastic surgeons have made incredible advancements in the cosmetic surgery field. Patients now have a variety of liposuction treatments to choose from. Water jet-assisted liposuction is an advancement that provides patients with a gentler option. Some of the cosmetic concerns that a water jet-assisted lipo could fix are;

  • Buttocks shape and size
  • Abdominal contour
  • Gender confirmation
  • Neck and jaw definition
  • Arm shape and size
  • Mommy makeover
  • Excess body fat

Technique

A group of German plastic surgeons launched this technique in 2007 with the aim of providing a safer and more innovative alternative. Since the launch, there have been several modifications to the procedure and it’s currently one of the most promising ones.

Water jet-assisted liposuction uses a saline spray solution to displace fat easily before removal. After a spray, the fat tissue loosens, leading to a less combative removal process. This causes less damage to your body tissue and reduces the time you need to recover. Water jet-assisted liposuction causes the least damage to the fat cells. Thus, if you need to re-implant the fat cells to another part of your body, the procedure will harvest the fat cells gently and in large numbers.

Best Candidate

While it aids in fat removal, water jet-assisted liposuction is not a weight loss plan. Doctors do not recommend this procedure for anyone with unstable and unhealthy weight. People with conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or pulmonary problems are also not ideal for the procedure. It is best for those who have a healthy weight but with stubborn fat deposits that will not disappear after dieting or exercising. This procedure is also ideal for those who want fat harvesting for reimplantation. It is best to have realistic expectations that align with your body type and physique.

The Process

Instead of injecting tumescent fluid into the body then using a cannula to get rid of the fat, water jet-assisted liposuction uses a pressurized saline technique. Most doctors consider water jet-assisted liposuction as an outpatient treatment. The first thing is administering the tumescent fluid. A lot of liposuction procedures utilise tumescent fluid as it is very effective. It contains saline , local anesthesia other medication. The anaesthesia ensures more comfort and a pain-free experience. This liposuction technology does not need a general anesthetic, which reduces risks and costs.

Once the anesthesia takes control, the doctor uses a cannula to irrigate and at the same time suction the loose fat cells . Suppose the procedure involves going over many parts. You can make your own decision during a detailed consultation with your doctor.

After going through all the parts, they remove any remaining fluid. The doctor uses less force as compared to traditional liposuction. Using water also reduces the amount of trauma that the body experiences. The fluid management also helps the doctor carry out a more keen anatomical assessment. Since the fatty areas do not swell in the process, the surgeon can see the results as they continue the procedure. This assures you of better results.

The whole procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes per body part.

Recovery

Some patients can return to their daily lives immediately after treatment. This coined the name “lunch break lipo ”, as you can have it during your lunch break and resume your activities. Most patients go through one to two weeks of downtime after the treatment. One can work comfortably after about five days. You can expect swelling, pain, and bruising during this period. Wearing a compression garment will help you speed up healing.

Recovery is all about giving your body what it needs as it heals. Thus, be mindful and patient; your body will let you know its desires. Slowly ease yourself into your routine without a hurry. Healthy habits such as good sleep, healthy food, and drinking water will speed up your recovery. Those eight hours of sleep will give your body time to cycle those repair hormones through your blood. Anti-inflammatory foods will also help keep the swelling down. So, keep away the caffeine, alcohol, and processed foods.

Results

You can appreciate the results of a water-jet-assisted lipo immediately after the procedure.  Once the swelling subsides during recovery, the results are more visible. This may take four to six weeks. After six to 12 months, you can enjoy your full results and a new body.
