Breast Augmentation

Commonly referred to as “breast job” and technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, breast augmentation is one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery in Dubai. It involves a breast augmentation surgeon inserting implants inside the breast tissues to improve their size and shape.

This procedure is particularly important if you wish to feel more comfortable with your overall look and boost confidence. For others, breast augmentation is a part of rebuilding the breast due to various conditions.

What is Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Breast augmentation is a popular surgical procedure that uses implants or fat transfers to increase the size and shape of breasts. Regardless of your current situation, this medical procedure gives breasts a more rounded and symmetrical appearance.

Besides the need to boost your appearance, breast augmentation in Dubai is also done for reconstructive purposes. For instance, those that have had a mastectomy can also benefit from breast augmentation.

Breast implants are mostly made from Silicone or Saline to give you a fuller bustline.

Why is Breast Augmentation Done?

Some of the reasons why breast augmentation is done are:

  • To correct the shape and size of your breasts
  • To enhance your body contours to give shape and volume
  • Correct uneven breasts following an illness or breast surgery
  • To increase your bra cup size
  • To change the appearance of small breasts
  • To restore balance on asymmetrical breasts
  • To boost your confidence and self-esteem.

Ensure to discuss your ultimate goal for breast augmentation with your surgeon. Thereafter, they will give you realistic feedback regarding the possible outcomes and what the procedure can do for you.

How are Breast Implants used in Breast Augmentation?

Breast implants are medical silicone shells filled with saline (saltwater) or silicone gel. They come in various shapes and sizes customized to a person’s needs. Breast implants are made to offer a close resemblance to natural breasts.

The materials used in breast implants do not cause any allergic reaction to the body, meaning you shouldn’t worry about any adverse effects. There are different types of implants to choose from when getting breast augmentation in Dubai.

Types of Implants Used in Breast Augmentation

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants are filled with sterile saltwater. While they are inserted when empty, they are filled once in place. Saline implants are ideal for women aged 18 and older.

Silicone Implants

Silicone gel-filled implants are filled with elastic soft-gel. They are usually pre-filled and have been in use since the 1990s. Silicone implants are available to women aged 22 and older.

Gummy Bear Breast Implants

Also referred to as form-based implants, these are silicone implants that contain more silicone gel than other traditional silicone implants.

Round Breast Implants

These are more like the gummy bear breast implants, only appearing fuller. Even when cut, the implants are able to maintain their shape or form as they contain thicker silicone gel.

Smooth Breast Implants

Smooth breast implants have an outer silicone rubber shell that is smooth and soft. However, they do not attach to the surrounding breast tissues and are usually freely moveable.

Breast Augmentation Using Fat Transfer

Besides the use of silicone or saline breast implants, there’s also a fat transfer breast augmentation. Here, your surgeon uses liposuction to remove the fat from a different part of your body and then inject it into your breasts.

This type of breast augmentation is generally ideal for people that only want a small increase in their breast size.

Who is a Suitable Candidate For Breast Augmentation Procedure?

Breast augmentation is a procedure performed purely for cosmetic reasons. Here are a few factors surgeons consider before determining whether you’re an ideal candidate:

  • You must be healthy: the first thing that breast augmentation surgeons consider is your health. Are you physically healthy? Do you have any underlying medical conditions or infections? Also, you should discuss with your surgeon about any pre-existing medical conditions that you’ve had.
  • You have realistic expectations: it is important to have a goal before choosing breast augmentation. Fortunately, your surgeon will take you through all the options and possible outcomes.

You should also note that breast augmentation only improves your appearance to some extent. Some women may choose other cosmetic surgeries like a tummy tuck or liposuction to give them the body shape they desire.

  • Your breasts are fully developed: it is mandatory that the patient’s breasts fully develop before a breast augmentation surgery. The procedure may result in unsatisfactory outcomes or even worse (complications and infections) if this is not adhered to. According to the law, you must be at least 18 for saline implants and 22 for silicone implants.

Who Is Not A Suitable Candidate For Breast Augmentation?

You’re likely not to become an ideal candidate for breast augmentation if:

  • You’re pregnant
  • Still breastfeeding
  • You’re ill or battling an infection
  • You have breast cancer
  • You have an abnormal mammogram
  • You have unrealistic post-surgery expectations.

It is vital to be transparent with your surgeon about all these things to avoid future complications. If you’re not a good fit for breast augmentation, your surgeon may recommend alternative ways that would help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

How to Prepare for Breast Augmentation in Dubai?

Breast augmentation surgery is a pretty straightforward procedure. During your initial visit, your surgeon will ask you a few questions, including examining your body to determine if you’re an ideal candidate.

You’ll also discuss with your surgeon about your preferences and expectations. Once all that is out of the way, you’ll be given an appointment for your breast augmentation surgery.

Your doctor may advise that you stop using certain medications or recommend alternatives before the procedure. Moreover, if you are a regular smoker, you’ll also have to stop smoking a few weeks before the surgery. Smoking and alcohol intake may induce bleeding and prolong healing.

What to Expect During Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Breast augmentation is done in our clinic in Dubai. You’ll most likely go back home the same day as the procedure rarely requires a hospital stay. Your surgeon may use local or general anesthesia.

To insert the breast implant, your surgeon will make an incision in one of three places:

  • Around your nipple (periareolar)
  • Under your arm (axillary)
  • Under your breast (inframammary)

After that, your breast tissues will be separated from your chest’s muscles and connective tissues. This creates a pocket where the surgeon inserts the implant. Once the implant is in place, the surgeon closes the incision with stitches and bandages it.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

You may experience swelling and soreness for a few weeks. Your surgeon will advise you on when and how to return to your regular activities. It would be prudent to avoid any strenuous physical activities that may raise your blood pressure for at least two weeks. Your doctor will remain in regular contact with you to monitor your progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Breast augmentation is generally considered a safe procedure. Both saline and silicone breast implants do not affect the body and yield no allergy reactions. However, since this is an invasive surgery, you have to ensure that you only get it from a qualified and experienced surgeon.

Technically any female adults are eligible for breast implants. You must be 18 and over for saline implants and at least 22 years to get silicone implants. Most of the women that get breast implants are in their 30s.

There are still many that are above 50 years that get breast augmentation in Dubai. Regardless of where you are in your life’s journey and are interested in breast implants, be sure to book your appointment, and we will discuss your options.

Depending on your preferences, your surgeon can conduct breast augmentation surgery with local anesthesia. This means that the surgery goes on while the patient is awake. The surgical area is numbed, and you’ll only have to bear with the initial injections as the numbing agent is introduced into your body.

It is common for there to be changes in nipple sensitivity immediately after a breast augmentation surgery. Some patients will realize increased sensitivity, while others experience reduced sensitivity. This is pretty normal as the surgery generally stretches breast tissues which include a number of nerves. Fortunately, the body adjusts to normalcy, and you’ll get your normal nipple sensitivity once you’re healed.

Breast augmentation surgery lasts for around an hour or two. This is generally an outpatient procedure where the patient goes home after the surgery. Since breast augmentation is a major surgery, you’ll have to be put under anesthesia.

Although breast implants don’t technically expire, they are not designed to last a lifetime. Most silicone or saline breast implants only last for about 10 to 20 years before they need to be replaced.

Breast implants do not affect pregnancy. However, hormonal changes during pregnancy may alter how your breasts appear. Nevertheless, breast implants will not prevent you from getting pregnant or even breastfeeding. If not satisfied with how your breasts look like postpartum, you can reach out to our cosmetic surgeons and they will advise on the best course of action to get your aesthetic desires.

Women can get a breast augmentation at any point in life. However, if you plan on getting pregnant soon (ideally within the next 12 months), it would be a good idea to hold off getting breast implants for now.
